RASCALS TAKE FIRST OF THREE FROM GRIZZLIES
The River City Rascals hit four home runs Sunday afternoon, including two from Chris Raniere, to defeat the Gateway Grizzlies 10-5 in front of 4,418 at GCS Ballpark.
The Grizzlies (14-17) took a first inning lead on a two-run double by Charlie Lisk, but it would be short-lived. River City (18-13) scored three times in the second to take a 3-2 lead. Raniere hit the first of his two homers in the inning. It was a two-run shot.
Michael Campbell scored on an error in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at three. It stayed that way until the fifth, when the Rascals used four hits and error to add three runs off of starter Erik Dessau (2-3).
Dessau suffered the loss for the Grizzlies, allowing six runs, four earned, on nine hits over five innings.
Raniere hit his second homer of the day in the seventh, another two-run shot, to put River City up 8-3. The Grizzlies got RBIs from Manny Paula in the seventh and Ryne Malone in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-5. The Grizzlies left the bases loaded in the eighth and stranded 14 runners on base during the game.
Bobby Mosby hit a two-run homer to right in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Adam Tollefson (3-0) earned the win, in his first start, for River City. He went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He walked six and struck out four.
