PAINTS SNAP GRIZZLIES WINNING STREAK
The Chillicothe Paints knocked off the Gateway Grizzlies 7-5 Thursday night in front of 3,503 at GCS Ballpark. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies went down early as the Paints scored five runs in the second on just three hits. Grizzlies starter Matt Falk walked four hitters in the inning.
The Grizzlies (9-11) rallied to tie the score at five. Ryne Malone singled to drive in John Alonso in the second to make it 5-1. Malone hit a three-run home run in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-4. Malone finished the game 2-4 with four RBIs. The Grizzlies took advantage of a throwing error in the fifth to even the score. The Paints (9-10) would answer in the sixth.
Travis Garcia hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to put the Paints up for good.
The Grizzlies had chances, but couldn't capitalize. They stranded 11 men on base in the game.
Matt Falk (1-3) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. He allowed all seven runs on five hits over 5.2 innings. He walked seven and struck out three. Coby Mavroulis, Zack Gray and Eric Ridener combined for 3.1 scoreless innings of relief.
The Paints and Grizzlies play the "rubber match" of the three-game series Thursday night at GCS Ballpark. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
