PAINTS HANDLE GRIZZLIES IN RAIN-SHORTENED
The Chillicothe Paints defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 14-2 Wednesday night in a rain-shortened game in Chillicothe, OH. The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.
The game was scheduled as the first game of a double-header, but heavy rains forced the postponement of the remainder of the first game, and the scheduled second game in the series. The two teams will play a double-header of two seven-inning game Thursday night in Chillicothe, OH.
The Paints (7-4) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when former-Grizzlie Jeff Vincent scored on a sacrifice fly by Adrian Cantu. Vincent reached on a lead-off single. The Paints added five runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead and chase Grizzlies starter Kevin Hammons. Hammons (0-2) went just 2.1 innings surrendering six runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out two.
The Grizzlies (4-9) only runs came in the fourth inning. Stephen Holdren launched his third home run of the year with a runner on to make it 6-2. Holdren's home run was the lone hit for the Grizzlies.
Chillicothe would add three more runs in the bottom of the inning on a three-run home run by Cantu. The runs came off of Jon Ganzen, making his professional debut. Ganzen allowed three runs in 1.2 innings of work. He struck out one and did not walk a batter.
The Paints would cap off the scoring with five unearned runs in the fifth inning off of reliever Giorgio Fuda
The Grizzlies and Paints will wrap up the series Wednesday evening. The Grizzlies begin a three-game series at Florence on Friday night.
