GRIZZLIES WALK-OFF WITH WIN OVER RASCALS
Chad Rothford's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday night lifted the Gateway Grizzlies to a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the first-place River City Rascals. The win came in front of 3,097 at GCS Ballpark.
The Rascals (18-15) took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the second inning. Jeff Miller drilled a line drive home run to right to put River City up 2-0. Luke Barganier doubled later in the inning to drive in Andrew Sweet to make it 3-0 Rascals.
The Grizzlies (16-15) got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third. Mike Breyman was hit by a pitch to force in a run to make it 3-1. The RBI was the 249th of Breyman's Frontier League career moving him into fifth place on the league's All-Time list.
The Grizzlies took advantage of a pair of errors by the Rascals to get two runs and tie the game at three in the bottom of the fourth. Michael Campbell grounded into a double play, but Stephen Holdren was able to score on the play to make it 3-2. Robbie Minor drove in a run with a single to tie the game.
The double play was the only time that Campbell was retired. He finished 4-5. Campbell singled to lead off the ninth. Minor bunted Campbell to second who then scored on the hit by Rothford.
Eric Ridener (1-2) tossed two perfect innings in relief to earn the win for the Grizzlies. He struck out four of the six hitters he faced.
Scott Fogelson (2-2) went the distance in the loss for the Rascals. Fogelson struck out five.
