GRIZZLIES TAKE SECOND GAME; GO FOR SWEEP MONDAY
LOVES PARK, IL-The Gateway Grizzlies scored twice in the top of the first inning Sunday evening and never trailed as they defeated the Rockford RiverHawks 8-3 at Road Ranger Stadium. The Grizzlies have now won two straight and six of their last seven games.
Ryne Malone and Manny Paula each picked up RBIs in the inning. Michael Campbell drove in a run with a fielder's choice in the third and then Mike Breyman drove in two more in the fourth with a single as the Grizzlies (20-18) built their lead to 5-0.
Rockford (18-20) got on the board with a fifth inning run off Grizzlies starter Adam Revelette. Revelette (2-0) went 6.1 innings for the win. He allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits. He struck out a season-high seven hitters.
Breck Draper made it 6-1 Grizzlies with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. The RiverHawks answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 6-3.
Stephen Holdren and Robbie Minor each drove in insurance runs in the ninth, sealing the series win for the Grizzlies.
Draper finished the night 2-3 with the RBI. Breyman was 2-2 with the pair of RBIs.
Coby Mavroulis and Eric Ridener combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
The Grizzlies are at worst tied for first in the Frontier League West.
