GRIZZLIES, PAINTS SPLIT DOUBLE-HEADER
The Gateway Grizzlies and Chillicothe Paints split a double-header Thursday night in Chillicothe, OH. The Grizzlies took the opener 9-6, while the Paints won the nightcap 6-1.
The Paints (8-5) took an early lead in game one with five runs in an error ridden first inning. The Grizzlies (5-10) stormed back with six runs in the top of the second inning.
Mike Breyman led off the inning with his second home run of the year. Robbie Minor was hit by a pitch and scored on a Ryne Malone double to make it 5-2. With the bases loaded a two-outs Michael Campbell crushed his second home run of the year to left center, a grand slam, to give the Grizzlies the lead. The Paints tied it in the third, but the Grizzlies answered in the fourth.
Stephen Holdren hit his second home run of the series in the fourth, a two run shot, to put the Grizzlies up for good 8-6. The Grizzlies would add a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Minor.
Derek Blacksher (1-2) earned the win with six strong innings. Blacksher gave up six runs, just three earned, on four hits. Robert Romero earned the save, striking out the side in order in the seventh.
Breyman drove in the only run for the Grizzlies in game two. He doubled to drive in Campbell in the fourth to tie the score at one. The Paints answered with two in the bottom of the fourth to go up 3-2. They never trailed. They added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Matt Falk (1-2) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies in game two. He lasted into the fifth allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two.
The Grizzlies begin a three-game series at Florence, KY Friday night. Game time between the Freedom and Grizzlies is 6:05 p.m. central.
