GRIZZLIES HAMMER FREEDOM FOR SWEEP
The Gateway Grizzlies scored seven times in the bottom of the first inning Sunday then cruised to an 11-6 win, and a sweep, of the Florence Freedom in front of 4,385 at GCS Ballpark.
Charlie Lisk started the scoring for Gateway. Lisk lined a grand slam into the right field lawn to give the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead. A two-run home run by Manny Paula and a solo homer by Travis Fultz made it 7-0 at the end of one inning.
Paula added a two-run double in the fourth to make it 10-1 in favor of the Grizzlies (12-12). Paula finished the night 3-5 with the homer and four RBIs.
The Freedom (11-13) got a pair of home runs from Angel Molina.
Derek Blacksher (3-2) earned his third straight win, going seven innings in the start. He allowed four runs on eight hits. He struck out seven and walked just one. Newcomer Joel Boeschen pitched the final two frames. Boeschen allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits. He walked a batter and struck out one.
The Grizzlies will head on the road for a three-game series at Rockford. Game time between the Grizzlies and RiverHawks Monday night is 7:05 p.m.
