BIERNBAUM BLASTS THE SHARKS PAST THE BLUE CRABS
CAMDEN, NJ- L.J. Biernbaum and the Camden Riversharks welcomed the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to town in grand fashion Friday night. The Crabs dominated until the fifth, when Biernbaum led a comeback charge with a grand slam.
The Blue Crabs scored in each of the first four innings to take a 6-0 lead. The Riversharks’ first signs of life came in the bottom of the inning. Biernbaum led off with a double to left. Two batters later, first baseman Ron Davenport smashed his fourth homerun of the season to make it 6-2.
The Blue Crabs scored again in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead, but the Riversharks rallied in the bottom of the inning with a single, a hit-by-pitch, a walk and the slam to make it 7-6.
The Sharks added two more in the seventh on a rally started, again, by Biernbaum. Biernbaum and outfielder Josh Rabe knocked consecutive singles, and catcher Jason Phillips singled in the go-ahead runs to seal the win.
Biernbaum finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs.
Southern Maryland, who entered the day with a league-leading 4.19 team ERA, allowed eight runs on 11 hits. Starter Chris Gale took the hardest hit, giving up six runs on six hits.
