BLUEFISH FALL IN EXTRA INNING BATTLE
Bridgeport, CT – June 1st – The Bridgeport Bluefish kept things interesting all day but in the end lost to the Camden Riversharks 3-2 in an 11-inning contest. The loss comes a day after the Bluefish defeated the 'Sharks in their final at-bat thanks to a Jesse Hoorelbeke walk-off three-run homer. The Camden win snaps a six game losing skid while Bridgeport drops back to .500 at 18-18.
Bridgeport's Barry Hertzler was lights out over nine innings of work, allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts. The one run came in the first inning while Hertzler gave up just two hits over his final eight frames. Camden's Brian Lawrence was equally as good in his eight innings of work. He allowed one run on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Wes Wilkerson (0-4) pitched a solid tenth inning but hit a snag in the eleventh. The Bluefish closer hit Camden's Randy McGarvey to lead off the inning. Nic Jackson, who has been on fire for Camden, drove in the go-ahead run on a double to center. He scored an insurance run when he crossed home on Richard Lewis' third hit of the game. Jackson also scored the first run of the game and finished two-for-five.
In the bottom of the inning Bridgeport had the winning run at first base when Branden Florence hit an RBI single to plate Hoorelbeke. Brian Munhall was unable to keep the game alive with a fly-out to right field as Camden's Alec Zumwalt closed out his ninth game of the year. Jeremy Lewis (2-0) picks up the win for the 'Sharks with a perfect tenth inning.
The Bluefish will now travel to Newark to take on the Freedom Division leading Bears. Rafael Bergstrom will throw for the 'Fish tomorrow and square off against David Pellegrine. The Bluefish will return home on Tuesday June 10th against the Riversharks.
