BLUEFISH BATS REVOLT AGAINST revolution
Bridgeport, CT – June 25th – The Bridgeport Bluefish offense woke up in a big win over the York Revolution on Wednesday. The Bluefish notched 17 base knocks on their way to a 9-6 victory to improve to 29-30 on the season. The Revs fall to 23-36 after losing their second straight to Tommy John's crew.
Seven of the nine Bridgeport starters recorded at least two base hits each while six of the nine recorded at least one RBI. Henry Mateo (two runs) led the way with a three-for-five night. Luis Lopez drove in two runs on a fifth inning double while going two-for-five and Travis Ezi (two runs) continued to play well against his former team with a two-for-four evening. In his second game since returning from the disabled list, infielder Jay Caligiuri provided a beacon of life for the Bluefish with a game-tying RBI double in the fifth inning, his first hit of the season. The 'Fish went on to score four more in the following inning to ice the cake.
The bullpen was tapped early after Bridgeport starter Matt Pike and York starter Frank Castillo gave up five runs a piece. From there, as the Bridgeport offense exploded their bullpen shut down the Revs. Over the final four frames the combo of Wes Wilkerson (1-5), Derrick Ellison, Jeff Tam, Franklin Perez and Eddy Ramos allowed two hits. Wilkerson worked the sixth inning in relief of Pike to earn the victory. York reliever Dan Foli (0-2) allowed four runs over his 0.2 innings to suffer the loss in relief of Castillo. Eddy Ramos was brought in with two outs in the ninth and the tying run at the plate to earn his fifth save of the season.
Chris Ashby remained hot at the plate with a two-for-five night to lead the York hitters. Ashby got things started in the third inning with a bases-loaded two-run single. Kennard Jones jacked his second home run in as many games and added an RBI single in the ninth to finish two-for-three.
Bridgeport turns to Tim Drew (3-1) tomorrow night to pick up the series victory. Drew will be making his first start since May 24th after a stint on the disabled list and will be opposed by York starter Dave Gil (1-2). The Bluefish kick things off at 7:05 P.M. to celebrate their second Breast Cancer Awareness Night of the season.
