LANCASTER STORMS INTO BRIDGEPORT TO TAKE SERIES OPENER
Bridgeport, CT – June 27th – The Bridgeport Bluefish could not respond to eight early runs by the Lancaster Barnstormers en route to an 8-4 loss. Bridgeport jumped out to an early lead but the 'Stormers answered quick off Bluefish starter Barry Hertzler (3-4). The Bluefish drop their second straight and fall to 29-32 on the season as Lancaster improves to 27-34.
Hertzler worked one of his tougher outings of the season to suffer the loss. The Central CT State Alum lasted 3.2 innings and allowed all eight Lancaster runs on 11 hits. The Bluefish bullpen combination of Wes Wilkerson, Derrick Ellison and Franklin Perez allowed just four hits over the final 4.1 frames.
Eric Ackerman (3-4) was solid in his third start against the 'Fish this season. The Lancaster southpaw went seven innings and allowed four runs on nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts to earn the victory.
The Bluefish loaded the bases in the ninth of Barnstormer reliever Judd Songster with one out but were unable to rally. Songster got both Jesse Hoorelbeke and Ryan Bear to strike out swinging to end the game.
Lloyd Turner and Danny Gonzalez (double, two RBIs) recorded three hits a piece to lead the Barnstormers 15-hit assault. For the Bluefish, Henry Mateo, Branden Florence (double, RBI) and Bear (double) all notched two hits each.
Rafael Bergstrom (3-4) takes to the mound for the Bluefish tomorrow to end the two-game skid. Lancaster sends Josh Hall to oppose the Bluefish righty. First pitch is 6:05 P.M. and features a fireworks display following the game.
