FLYERS BEAT THE JACKHAMMERS 6-3

 

JOLIET, IL-The Schaumburg Flyers (15-23) scored four runs over the first five innings to beat the Joliet JackHammers 6-3 before 4,044 fans at Silver Cross Field on Wednesday night.

 

The Flyers pushed across two runs in the first inning against Joliet starter Brian Forystek (2-4). Mark Haske (1-4) led off the inning with a walk and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jermaine Allensworth (1-3). Bo Hart (4-4) hit an RBI single to score Haske for a 1-0 Flyers lead.

 

Hart moved to second base on a groundout by Vince Harrison (0-3) and scored on a single by Kurt Crowell (4-5) for a 2-0 Flyers lead.

 

The Flyers scored two more runs in the third inning. Allensworth reached base on a single and went to third when Hart doubled. The JackHammers intentionally walked Harrison to load the bases for Crowell, who hit a two-run single to make it 4-0.  

 

Schaumburg scored another run in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Hart but the JackHammers came back with three runs in the fourth inning against Flyers right-hander Steve Shippey. Mike Caruso (1-4) and Doc Brooks (0-4) reached base with walks before Cory Harris (1-3) hit a three-run home run over the left field wall to get the JackHammers within two runs at 5-3.

 

The Flyers added another run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by McGuire. The Flyers took a 6-3 lead and won the game by that same margin.

 

Forystek suffered the loss for the JackHammers. He allowed six runs on nine hits over five innings pitched. He walked four and struck out five. Chad Fillinger pitched two scoreless innings for the JackHammers in relief.

 

The JackHammers wrap up their series with the Schaumburg Flyers night. Matt Varner (0-6, 9.89) gets the start for Schaumburg against Aaron Trolia (5-1, 4.12) for the JackHammers. The JackHammers will giveaway a Budweiser Six Pack Cooler to the first 1,000 fans 21 and over.
