JACKHAMMERS LOSE 12-8 TO THE GOLDEYES

JOLIET, IL- The Joliet JackHammers (14-13) scored seven runs in the seventh inning to mount a comeback but could not come from behind from 11-1 deficit, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes beat the JackHammers 12-8 before 4,133 fans at Silver Cross Field on Friday night.

The Goldeyes scored three runs in the third inning against JackHammers starter Aaron Trolia (5-1). Fehlandt Lentini (3-6) led off the inning with a single and scored on when Demetrius Heath (1-5) reached on an error by Joliet SS Nick McIntyre. The Goldeyes took a 1-0 lead.

After Heath was picked off first base, Brent Metheny (4-6) hit a single and stole second base. Kevin West (2-3) was intentionally walked. Tydus Meadows (1-5) was hit by a pitch. Antoin Gray (2-4) hit a two-run single to score Metheny and West and give the Goldeyes a 3-0 lead.

The JackHammers scored a single run in the third inning. Steve Garrabrants (2-5) hit a solo home run to score cut the Goldeyes lead down to two runs at 3-1.

Winnipeg scored five runs in the fifth inning against. Metheny reached base with a single and went to third on a double by West. The JackHammers intentionally walked Gray to load the bases and elected to pitch to Jamar Hill (2-5), who unloaded them with a three-run triple. The Goldeyes led 6-1 and Winnipeg ended up scoring two more runs in the inning for an 8-1 advantage.

The JackHammers yielded two more runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh for an 11-1 Winnipeg lead.

Joliet went to work in the seventh inning. Freddie Thon (2-5) led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a single by Joe Hooft (3-4). Nick Prosise (2-4) hit an RBI single to score Thon and make it 11-2. Nick McIntyre (2-5) followed with an RBI single to score Hooft and get the JackHammers within eight runs at 11-3.

A walk to Doc Brooks (1-3) loaded the bases and Diaz walked to force in Prosise. Gomes hit a two-run single to get the JackHammers within six runs at 11-5.

The JackHammers tacked on three more runs in the inning, including an RBI double by Thon to make it 11-8.

Brian Beuning pitched two scoreless innings and allowed just two hits as the JackHammers could not complete the comeback over the eighth and ninth innings.

Loose Gravel: Garrabrants has hit RBIs in each of the first three games he’s started since returning from a strained oblique muscle. He finished with one RBI on Friday.

Joliet will entertain Winnipeg for game two of the three-game series on Saturday night. Winnnipeg will send RHP Aaron Jackson (1-0, 3.07) to the mound against LHP Brian Forystek (2-2, 3.64) for Joliet. Myron Noodleman will be at the ballpark to entertain the masses.
