RAILCATS “WALK-OFF” WITH A 3-2 VICTORY

GARY, IN-The Joliet JackHammers (10-11) scored two runs in the ninth inning to tie the Gary SouthShore RailCats at 2-2 only to lose the game by a score of 3-2 on an RBI double by 3B Tanner Townsend (1-4) in the bottom of the ninth inning before 3,382 fans at U.S. Steel Yard on Friday night.

The RailCats scored one run in the first inning against Joliet starter Nate Sevier. Mike Reese (1-4) led off the inning with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Eric McNamee (1-4). Gary took a 1-0 lead.

Gary scored another run in the sixth inning. Steve Haake (0-2) reached base on a two-out walk and stole second base. He moved to third base on a throwing error by Joliet catcher Nick Prosise. Christian Guerrero (2-4) hit an RBI double to make it a 2-0 RailCats advantage.

The JackHammers scored two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game at 2-2. Cory Harris (2-3) led off the inning by hitting a solo home run against Gary closer P.J. Bevis (2-0). Dorian Rojas (0-3) followed with a walk and moved to third base on a single by Nick Prosise (2-4). Wally Backman, Jr. (0-0) came into the game to pinch-hit for Joe Hooft (1-3). He hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Rojas from third base and tie the game at 2-2.

In the ninth inning, Guerrero hit a one-out single against Tyler Meigs (0-3). Townsend followed with a double to score Guerrero all the way from third base for a 3-2 win.

Loose Gravel: The game was delayed 15 minutes at the start because the RailCats LHP Tony Cogan was scratched from his start due to a reported case of Appendicitis. LHP Drew Dickinson took 15 minutes to warm up and started the game for Gary. He pitched five innings on Friday.

The JackHammers and RailCats play game two of their three-game series on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. Joliet will send LHP David Moraga (1-0, 3.22) to the hill against Billy Phillips (1-1, 4.78) for the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
