REDHAWKS BEAT THE JACKHAMMERS 4-2

 

FARGO, ND-The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored three runs in the fifth inning to beat the Joliet JackHammers 4-2 before 2,651 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Wednesday night.

 

The RedHawks scored a single run in the third inning against Joliet left-hander Brian Forystek. Zach Penprase (2-2) hit a single and proceeded to steal second and third base. Boomer Berry (1-3) hit an RBI groundout to score Penprase and give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.

 

The JackHammers (9-10) struck with two runs in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Dorian Rojas (1-4) and Freddie Thon (2-4) started the inning with back-to-back singles. Nick Prosise (1-3) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Eric Scriven (0-2) hit an RBI groundout to score Rojas and tie the game at 1-1. Doc Brooks (2-5) hit an RBI single to push Thon across home plate and make it a 2-1 Joliet lead.

 

The RedHawks pushed across three runs in the fifth inning. Kory Wayment (0-3) worked a leadoff walk and went to second base on a single by Penprase. Joe Mathis (0-3) laid down a sacrifice bunt to the left side of the infield. Forystek came off the mound to his right to field the baseball. He attempted to retire Mathis at third base but threw high. All base runners were safe and the RedHawks had the bases loaded.

 

Berry hit a sacrifice fly to score Wayment and Penprase scored on a past ball. The RedHawks had a 3-2 lead. Jeff Eure (1-3) hit a sacrifice fly to score Mathis and give the RedHawks a 4-2 lead.

 

Forystek suffered the loss for the JackHammers. He allowed four runs, (one earned run),  on five hits in four and two-thirds innings pitched.

 

The JackHammers finish their series in Fargo-Moorhead on Thursday afternoon. Aaron Trolia (3-0, 2.36) will start for the JackHammers against RHP Dane Renkert (1-1, 3.86) for the RedHawks.
