RASCALS SWEEP GRIZZLIES
The River City Rascals completed a three-game sweep of the Gateway Grizzlies with an 8-3 win Monday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
The Rascals took a 2-0 lead on Bobby Mosby's second home run of the season in the second inning. Charlie Lisk answered for the Grizzlies in the second with his third of the year to make it 2-1.
Lisk was 3-4 for the Grizzlies.
River City (3-3) would get two more in the second inning on a two-run double by Jacob DeBoer. The Grizzlies (1-5) answered again with a home run. This time it was Ryne Malone's second of the year. The solo shot cut the lead to 4-2.
Malone finished the night 3-5 with the home run and two runs scored.
Jeff Miller made it 5-2 with an RBI in the sixth for the Rascals. Jeff Vincent made it 5-3 with an RBI triple in the seventh inning. Miller put the game out of reach with a three-sun shot in the bottom of the eighth inning. Vincent was 3-3 with the RBI in the losing cause.
Miller, who came into the night 0-15 on the year, was 2-4 with four RBIs for the Rascals.
Both starters figured into the decision. Chris Clem (1-1) went 6.2 innings to earn his first win. He allowed all three runs on 10 Grizzlies hits. Erik Dessau (0-1) took the loss for the Grizzlies. Dessau allowed five runs on eight hits in seven innings.
The Grizzlies begin a three-game series at Southern Illinois Tuesday night. Game time against the Miners is 7:05 p.m.
