GRIZZLIES KNOCK OFF OTTERS FOR SECOND WIN
The Gateway Grizzlies got good starting pitching, and plenty of timely hits Friday night to earn just their second win of the season. The Grizzlies knocked off previously unbeaten Evansville 8-5 in front of 2,486 at GCS Ballpark.
Matt Falk (1-1) tossed 6.2 innings for the win. He allowed four runs, one earned on just three hits. He struck out four and walked three. Eric Ridener added 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Robert Romero pitched the ninth. He allowed a run on one hit.
The Grizzlies (2-8) took a 1-0 lead after one inning, but Evansville (9-1) answered in the second to tie the game at one. The Grizzlies got a run in the fourth to go up 2-1 and never trailed again. They added two more runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth to go up 8-1.
The Grizzlies tied a season-high with 13 hits off of three Otters' pitchers. Michael Campbell was 4-5 with two RBIs and three runs. Manny Paula was 2-5 with four RBIs. Bobby Wright was 1-4 and added his first RBI as a professional.
The Grizzlies and the Otters continue the series with a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.
