GRIZZLIES DROP OPENER TO MINERS
 
The Southern Illinois Miners (1-0) used a nine-run fifth inning to defeat the Grizzlies (0-1) 12-9 on Wednesday night.  The loss came in front of 4,586 fans at GCS Ballpark.
 
13 Southern Illinois hitters came to the plate in the fifth and nine scored against Grizzlies pitchers Erik Dessau and Jason Herman.  Herman (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs on three hits.  He walked one.  Dessau started and allowed six runs in four-plus innings.
 
The Grizzlies led 6-1 prior to the inning. 
 
Newcomer Michael Campbell led the way for the Grizzlies offensively. Campbell was 3-5 with three RBIs.  He hit a two-run home run in the first inning to open the scoring for the Grizzlies.  Jeff Vincent was 3-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.  Charlie Lisk was 2-4 with a two-run home run and a pair of RBIs.
 
The Grizzlies and the Miners continue the series with a 7:05 p.m. game Thursday night at GCS Ballpark.
