The Gateway Grizzlies are proud to announce that the club has reached an agreement with WSIE FM to serve as the flagship station of the Grizzlies baseball network for the next two seasons. WSIE FM is the campus station at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Fans will hear all 96 Grizzlies games on 88.7 FM WSIE.
"This is the first time in the club's history that the radio signal will cover the majority of our fan base," Grizzlies General Manager Steve Gomric said. "You will be able to hear every game start to finish. I believe our fans will be pleased at the coverage WSIE will provide."
WSIE FM, known as the The Jazz Station, is a non-commercial public radio station serving St. Louis and Southwest Illinois, offering an all-jazz format. WSIE is a 50,000-watt station, owned and operated by the Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University. Located in Edwardsville, Illinois, WSIE-FM operates from studios in Dunham Hall on the campus of Southern Illinois University.
"WSIE is proud to serve fans of the Gateway Grizzlies as the team's flagship station," WSIE General Manager Frank Akers said. "The partnership will benefit the Grizzlies, WSIE and SIUE."
The Grizzlies will again utilize a multi-station network to broadcast all 96 games. 1400 AM KJFF will return as a Grizzlie affiliate for the sixth consecutive season. The Grizzlies have also added KMOX.com as an affiliate. "The Voice of St. Louis" will air all Grizzlies games online.
Joe Pott will return in 2008 for his seventh full season behind the microphone as "Voice of the Grizzlies." Pott has been a part of Grizzlies broadcasts since the team's inception. He earned recognition as the Frontier League's Broadcaster of the Year in 2005 and 2006.
"I am thrilled at the addition of WSIE and KMOX.com," Pott said. "I am excited that fans will be able to hear all of our games no matter where they are."
The Grizzlies are the defending West Division Champions. They begin their eighth Frontier League season May 21st when they host the Southern Illinois Miners at 7:05 p.m.
