PICKERING POWERS blueFISH to victory
Bridgeport, CT – May 5th – The Bridgeport Bluefish were able to power their way past the York Revolution Monday night, largely in part to a 7th inning grand slam by Bridgeport designated hitter Calvin Pickering, with a final score of 7-2. The win brings Bridgeport back to .500 on the year with a 5-5 record.
Pickering scorched a Travis Phelps pitch over the right field wall with the bases full of Fish. The former Major Leaguer also drilled a single off Revolution starter Aaron Myette in the 6th inning, finishing two-for-four on the night. The DH has started to pick things up as of late, reaching base in each of his last four games. Myette did not factor in the decision but pitched well, going six innings giving up four hits and two runs, both unearned, while walking four and striking out four.
Jake Daubert iced the cake with an 8th inning solo homer, his first long ball in a Bluefish jersey. Henry Mateo also added an RBI and a run on the night.
Eric DuBose continued the stretch of solid Bluefish starting pitching. The lefty went six innings allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out two. Matt Pike (1-0) picked up the win in his first appearance with Bridgeport pitching two innings of hitless baseball, walking one and striking out two.
Jason Aspito picked up both RBIs for the Revolution when his 6th inning double off DuBose drove in Matt Padget and Tyler Von Schell. Phelps (0-1) is charged with the loss for York, giving up the four go ahead runs on Pickering’s blast, also allowing two hits and walking three in his one inning of work.
