JACKHAMMERS POUR IT ON THE THUNDERBOLTS

Familiar Faces Lead Way to a 10-0 Victory

CRESTWOOD, IL-Nate Sevier and Nick Renault combined for seven scoreless innings and Juan Diaz (2-3) drove in four runs to lead the Joliet JackHammers to a 10-0 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts on Friday afternoon at Standard Bank Stadium. The JackHammers improve to 2-0-1 on the 2008 exhibition season and travel to Florence, KY for a two-game series with the Florence Freedom beginning Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

The JackHammers scored first with a single run in the first inning. Second baseman Steve Garrabrants (1-2) led off the game with a single and stole second base. After Dorian Rojas (0-1) followed with a fly out and Pat O’Sullivan (0-4) struck out, Diaz hit an RBI single to score Garrabrants from second base for a 1-0 Joliet lead.

After the first inning, the Joliet bats did not pick up a hit until the sixth when the JackHammers exploded for eight runs. Nick Prosise (0-3), Garrabrants and Rojas earned consecutive walks to load the bases. O’Sullivan was hit by a pitch to force in Prosise and Garrabrants scored on a wild pitch. The JackHammers took a 3-0 lead.

Diaz then hit a two-run double to make it 5-0.

Doc Brooks (0-3) and Joey Gomes (1-3) walked to re-load the bases for Cory Harris (2-4), who hit a two run single to make it 7-0. The JackHammers tacked on two more runs to finish the innings with a 9-0 advantage.

Diaz hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to score Eric Scriven (1-2).

Sevier started the game for the JackHammers and pitched three scoreless innings. He allowed three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out one hitter while Renault tossed four hitless innings. Newcomers Tyler Meigs (eighth) and Kevin Altman (ninth) each pitched one scoreless inning.

The JackHammers now travel to Florence, KY to take on the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League on Saturday night. Brian Forystek (4-4, 2.73) gets the start for the JackHammers with a first pitch at 7:00 p.m.
