TROLIA TOSSES A GEM! JACKHAMMERS WIN 7-1

JOLIET, IL- Aaron Trolia (2-0) pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on three hits and Cory Harris (1-3) hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to lead the Joliet JackHammers to a 7-1 victory over the Schaumburg Flyers before 2,027 fans at Silver Cross Field on Tuesday night.

Joliet scored three runs in the fourth inning against Schaumburg left-hander Brad Mumma (1-2). Joey Gomes (2-3) led off the inning with a double and scored on a single by Juan Diaz (2-3). Harris followed with a two-run home run to give the JackHammers a 3-0 lead.

The JackHammers scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Joe Hooft (2-3) reached first base with a two-out single. He moved to second base on a throwing error by Flyers first baseman Chris Gaskin. Gomes hit an RBI single to score Hooft and make it 4-0.

In the sixth inning, Dorian Rojas (2-4) hit a two-out single and stole second base. Nick Prosise (1-4) hit an RBI single to score Rojas and give the JackHammers a 5-0 lead.

The Flyers scored a run in the seventh inning against Trolia. He has allowed a grand total of just two runs on the home stand after pitching seven innings and allowing one run against Winnipeg on May 23. He received a no-decision that day.

The JackHammers scored two more insurance runs in the seventh inning. Eric Scriven (0-4) was hit by a pitch by Flyers reliever Luke Hagerty. Scriven was caught stealing at second base. Hooft followed by working a walk. The JackHammers second baseman moved to second base on a wild pitch by Hagerty. Gomes walked and was taken out of the game in favor of pinch-runner Wally Backman, Jr. (0-0). Diaz hit an RBI single to score Hooft and give the JackHammers a 6-1 lead.

Harris was hit by a pitch to move Backman, Jr. to third base. Doc Brooks (1-3) lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Brooks to round out the scoring at 7-1.

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers made roster moves before the game today, signing RHP Danny Touchet, releasing RHP Mike Schellinger and placing RHP Jared Sutton on the inactive list.

Touchet pitched in 16 games with the Frisco RoughRiders (Texas, AA) of the Texas League and went 2-0 with a 6.86 ERA. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Tuesday night.

The JackHammers continue their series with the Schaumburg Flyers on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. The JackHammers present the Will County Health Department Baseball Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans and an Air Guitar Giveaway to all fans.
