Cory Harris Scores the Winning Run in the Ninth Inning on a Wild Pitch

JOLIET, IL-The Joliet JackHammers (5-5) surrendered two runs in the eighth inning to lose a 4-3 lead only to score two runs in the ninth inning, including the winning run on a dropped third strike by Goldeyes catcher Brent Metheny that allowed Cory Harris (2-5) to score from third base for a 6-5 come-from-behind victory before 2,414 fans at Silver Cross Field on Sunday night.

The Goldeyes scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run home run by Kevin West (1-4). He pulled a pitch from Joliet starter Nate Sevier over the left field wall and the Goldeyes took a 2-0 lead.

The JackHammers scored three runs in the second inning against Goldeyes left-handed starter Zach Baldwin. Nick Prosise (1-4) reached base on a one-out walk and scored on a double by Freddie Thon (2-5). Joliet trailed Winnipeg by a score of 2-1. Nick McIntyre (1-3) next came up and hit an RBI single to score Thon and tie the game at 2-2.

Joe Hooft (1-5) laced an RBI single of his own. McIntyre, who went to second base on a throwing error by Metheny, scored on the play and Joliet went up 3-2.

The JackHammers scored another run in the third inning. Harris led off the inning with a single and went to second base on a wild pitch. Doc Brooks (4-5) singled Harris to third base and Prosise grounded into a double play to score Harris. Joliet took a 4-2 lead.

The Goldeyes plated a single run in the sixth inning. Tydus Meadows (2-4) hit a one-out single and went to third base on a double by Trino Aguilar (1-4). Antoin Gray (0-4) hit an RBI groundout to score Meadows and get the Goldeyes within one run at 3-2.

Winnipeg pushed across two runs in the eighth inning. Joliet right-hander Mike Schellinger walked Meadows and Aguilar to lead off the inning. Gray laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position. Max Poulin (2-4) hit a two-run single and the Goldeyes took a 5-4 lead.

In the ninth inning, Joliet RF Joey Gomes (3-4) led off by getting hit by a pitch. Wally Backman, Jr. (0-0) came into the game to pinch-run for Gomes. Harris hit a single to move Backman, Jr. to second base. Brooks singled to move the lead base runner to third base. Nick Prosise hit an RBI single to score Gomes and tie the game at 5-5.

Harris moved to third base on the play and scored on the wild pitch to the backstop for the 6-5 JackHammers victory.

The JackHammers and Goldeyes finish up their series on Monday afternoon 2:05 p.m. RHP Bear Bay (0-2, 5.40) takes the hill for Winnipeg against LHP Brian Forystek (0-0, 6.75) for Joliet. The JackHammers present the Empress Casino Flag Kit Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans 21 and over.
