THREE HOME RUNS KEY TO AN 11-4 JACKHAMMERS VICTORY
Schaumburg, IL-The Joliet JackHammers (3-4) got three home runs, including an inside-the-park two-run home run from Cory Harris (2-5) to beat the Schaumburg Flyers 11-4 at ALEXIAN Field on Wednesday night. The JackHammers take Thursday off before the 2008 home schedule opens on Friday, May 23 at 7:05 p.m. against the Winnipeg Goldeyes for Harris Bank Opening Night at Silver Cross Field with fireworks to follow the game.
The JackHammers scored a single run in the second inning and two runs in the third. Eric Scriven (3-5) hit a one-out double and scored on a single by Hooft. The JackHammers took a 4-2 lead.
The Flyers scored two runs in the second inning against
In the third inning, Harris hit a one-out single and moved to third base on a single by Doc Brooks (2-4). Dorian Rojas (0-4) reached base on a fielder’s choice and Harris scored to make it a 5-2 lead.
In the fourth inning, Gomes hit a one-out single and went to second base on a wild pitch. Diaz struck out and Harris lined a pitch all the way to the wall in left center field. He smacked an inside-the-park two-run home run for an 8-2 JackHammers lead.
The Flyers scored two more runs in the fourth inning against Forystek. Rontrez Johnson (4-4) hit a two-run home to get within four runs at 8-4.
Diaz hit a two-run single in the eighth inning and the JackHammers scored a run on an error in the ninth inning.
Jared Sutton (1-0) pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings to pick up the win. He allowed two hits, walked three men and struck out four.
Loose Gravel: Harris’s inside-the-park home run was his first home run of the season. He hit 16 for the JackHammers in 2007.
