BREYMAN RE-SIGNS WITH THE GRIZZLIES
The Gateway Grizzlies announced today that they have re-signed All-Star first baseman Mike Breyman. 2008 will mark Breyman's fifth season in a Grizzlies uniform.
The Attica, OH native, who now resides in Shiloh, IL, began his professional career with the Grizzlies in 2004 and has played more games in a Grizzlies uniform than any other player in franchise history.
"He's the kind of guy you build a club around," Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. "We expect great things from Mike and he delivers."
Breyman enjoyed one of his best seasons in 2007, when he hit .331 with 22 home runs and 70 RBIs. He was a mid-season, and post-season All-Star selection. His fine season vaulted him to the top of the club's record book in nearly every offensive category.
He now holds 13 career records for the Grizzlies, including being the all-time leader in hits (357), home runs (58) and RBIs (226). His career batting average of .334 is the best in team history. His 58 home runs are tied for third best in Frontier League history. Breyman, who has averaged 103 hits per season over his last three seasons, is just 93 hits shy of becoming the Frontier League's all-time hits leader. Fran Riordan had 449 hits in his FL career.
"He's got all of our records," Warren said. Now you're chasing guys like Fran. That's pretty special."
The Grizzlies were West Division Champions in 2007. They begin their eighth season in the Frontier League Wednesday May 21 against the Southern Illinois Miners. Season tickets and group outings are currently available by calling the Grizzlies at 618-337-3000 or visiting the GCS Ballpark ticket office in person.
