Gary, Ind.—The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored six runs in the sixth inning after waiting out a two hour, 11 minute rain delay to defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 7-3 on Friday night in game three of the best-of-five Northern League semi-final playoff series.  The Goldeyes went up two games to one in the series and would advance to the Championship Series with a win over the RailCats on Saturday night.  A crowd of 3,049 attended the game at U. S. Steel Yard.

RailCats starting pitcher Josh Habel and Winnipeg's Ben Moore were hooked up in a scoreless pitcher's duel when a brief seven minute downpour hit the Steel Yard with the RailCats batting in the bottom of the fifth inning.  The entire dirt portion of the infield was submerged under water, resulting in a long delay before play could be resumed.  The delay cost the RailCats the services of Habel, who could not continue when the game re-started.

RailCats reliever David Byard replaced Habel on the mound to start the sixth and allowed a lead-off triple to Max Poulin, who scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.  With two outs, Byard issued back-to-back walks and a hit batsman to load the bases before Aaron McEachran doubled to right-center field to bring in two runs and make it 3-0.  Steve Edsall replaced Byard and allowed a single to Luis Alen to bring in another run, and one batter later, Poulin collected his second hit of the inning, a two-run single to make it 6-0.

The RailCats took advantage of a throwing error by Winnipeg second baseman Antoin Gray that allowed two runs to score in the sixth to make it 6-2, but Winnipeg answered with a single run in the eighth on Corey Stang's run-scoring single to give the Goldeyes a 7-2 lead.

The RailCats had one final chance in the eighth.  Jay Pecci singled to start the inning and Eric Blakeley doubled.  With two outs, Jermaine Allensworth singled to score Pecci and move Blakeley to third as Allensworth went to second on a throwing error by right fielder Matt Mann.  But Tanner Townsend struck out to end the threat and the RailCats went quietly in the ninth to fall to within a game of elimination.
