NEWARK, NJ – September 3, 2007 – The Long Island Ducks scored five runs on three home runs in the ninth inning to erase a three run deficit and defeat the Newark Bears 7-6 on Monday afternoon at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.

Left fielder Estee Harris started the Ducks ninth inning rally with a two run home run to right centerfield.  After a double by catcher Jamie Pogue, centerfielder Reggie Taylor put Long Island in front with a two run home run to right field.  The next batter, second baseman Ray Navarrete, drilled a home run to centerfield for a 7-5 lead.

The Bears rallied against Long Island closer Danny Graves for one run in the ninth, but stranded a runner at third to end the game.  Graves picked up his league leading 32nd save.

The Bears took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a three run home run by second baseman Javier Colina, his 25th of the season.

Long Island got a run back in the top of the fifth on catcher Jamie Pogue’s fifth home run of the season, a solo shot down the left field line.

The Bears answered in their half of the fifth to go up 4-1.  Shortstop Ramon Castro doubled, moved to third on a single by first baseman Pat Peavey, and scored on a double to right center by centerfielder Keith Reed.  Castro finished the game 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored.

The Ducks scored a run in the eighth on a long home run to right field by Taylor.  The Bears pushed the lead back to three in the bottom half of the eighth when left fielder Joey Gomes dropped an RBI single into centerfield.

The Bears will head to York for a three game series against the Revolution.  First pitch on Tuesday night is scheduled for 7:05 PM with left-handed pitcher Dusty Bergman (0-0) taking the mound for the Bears.
