NEWARK, NJ – September 7, 2007 – Third baseman Matt Dryer and first baseman Kelly Hunt hit two home runs each to lead the York Revolution to a 7-2 victory over the Newark Bears on Friday night at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The two corner infielders went a combined 4-for-8 with seven RBI and 5 runs scored.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by first baseman Victor Rodriguez. Shortstop Ramon Castro led off the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to left field to make it 2-0. Castro finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Revolution tied the game in the fourth on a two run home run to left field by Dryer. In the top of the sixth, Dryer connected for his second homer of the game, another two run shot to left, to give York a 4-2 lead. Hunt followed Dryer with a home run to left centerfield for a three run advantage at 5-2. In the eighth, Hunt smacked a two run homer to left for a 7-2 lead.
York starter Frank Castillo (8-4) went eight innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk, striking out five. For the Bears, starter Jeriome Robertson (4-5) went five and one-third innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.
The Bears and Revolution will play game two of the three game series on Saturday evening with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM. The Bears will send right-hander Harold Eckert (4-0) to the mound to face York southpaw Chris Steinborn (7-13).
