Fire Reserves Lose 1-0 at New York
E. RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Sept. 2) – The Chicago Fire Reserves remain winless on the season following a 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls Reserves at Giants Stadium Sunday morning. Chicago is now 0-5-2 in the Major League Soccer Reserves Division.
Mike Magee scored the game-winning goal in the 11th minute when he blasted a shot past goalkeeper Jon Busch after receiving a cross from Markus Schopp.
Chicago had a chance to tie the contest in the game’s final seconds, but Chad Barrett’s penalty kick attempt was stopped to the right of the goal by goalkeeper Danny Cepero. The P.K. occurred after Hunter Freeman took down Floyd Franks in the box two minutes into stoppage play. Cepero helped preserved the shutout to run the Red Bull Reserves’ record to 4-2-0.
Barrett also had the Fire’s most dangerous chance in the first half when he created space on the right side of the penalty box and put in a ball on goal that was scooped by goalkeeper Jon Conway.
The Fire played most of the game a player down after Dasan Robinson was ejected with his second yellow in the 25th minute.
The Chicago Reserves return to action on Sept. 16, taking on New York in a rematch to be held in Bridgeview.
