NEWARK, NJ – September 15, 2007 – The Bridgeport Bluefish scored seven runs in the first two innings en route to an 11-3 victory over the Newark Bears on Saturday night at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.  The loss ends the Bears’ season high winning streak at seven games.    

 

The Bluefish jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  First baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke hit an RBI single and shortstop Nick Ortiz followed with a three run home run to left field.  The Bluefish added three more in the top of the second on an RBI single by designated hitter Quinton McCracken and a two run home run by second baseman Jay Caligiuri

 

Third baseman Corey Smith got the Bears on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two run home run to left field, his 17th of the year.

 

McCracken singled in a run in the sixth and, after a bases loaded walk, two more in the seventh to give Bridgeport an 11-2 lead.  McCracken led the Bluefish, going 3-for-6 with four RBI and a run scored.

 

In the bottom of the seventh, centerfielder Keith Reed drilled his 20th home run of the year to right field for the Bears’ third run.  Reed finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, a run scored, and an RBI.

 

The Bears will finish their regular season schedule on Sunday at 3:05 PM against the Bluefish.  Southpaw Mark Phillips (1-3) will take the mound for the Bears.
