NEWARK, NJ – September 6, 2007 – The Newark Bears pounded out 19 hits and scored 14 runs to defeat the York Revolution 14-8 on Thursday morning at Sovereign Bank Stadium.  The win gives the Bears five series sweeps on the season, three of them coming against the Revolution, who fall to 2-13 against Newark in 2007.

Bears’ starter Jose Garcia (5-0) went seven innings, surrendering three runs, two of them earned, on five hits and one walk, striking out five.  Reliever Justin Huisman, activated from the disabled list on Wednesday, struck out two and allowed just one hit in one and one-third innings.

The Bears, who never trailed in the game, held a 6-0 advantage after five and a half innings.  Leading 8-3 heading into the eighth, the Bears added six runs to put the game away.  Centerfielder Keith Reed drilled a three run home run and two batters later designated hitter Victor Rodriguez hit a solo shot.  Reed ended the game 3-for-6 with the home run, three RBI and two runs scored.  First baseman Pat Peavey capped the scoring with a two RBI single to centerfield.  Peavey went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

Also leading the Bears attack were shortstop Vic Gutierrez, who was 4-for-6 with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored, and left fielder Ramon Castro, who went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored.

Former Bears outfielder Joe Jiannetti led the York offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.  Centerfielder Kaz Tanaka went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and run scored.

The Bears and Revolution will begin a three game series on Friday night at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.  Bears’ southpaw Jeriome Robertson (4-4) will face right-hander Frank Castillo (7-4) in a game scheduled for 7:05 PM.
