Four interesting tidbits about the Chicago Fire …
1.) Media Game Reminder – It’s not too late to reserve a spot for this Friday’s Media Game at TOYOTA PARK (1 p.m. start). RSVP with Daniel Jankowski at djankowski@chicago-fire.com. Bring your shoes and shorts, we will provide a souvenir T-shirt and complimentary lunch. Coach Juan Carlos Osorio and his staff will be scouting for new talent – so bring your “A” Game. As an added bonus, Cuauhtémoc Blanco will serve as honorary referee.
2.) Speaking of Blanco, he was recently named as the “Top Latino Athlete in the United States” by ESPN Deportes La Revista. Blanco was ranked numero uno, followed by Oscar de la Hoya, Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz and Manu Ginobili. Good company, indeed.
3.) One more Temo note: He will serve as grand marshall of the Little Village Mexican Independence Day Parade, this Sunday. The parade starts at 12 p.m. and will launch at the Little Village Arch on 26th Street and Albany, move westward along 26th, and end at Kostner Ave. Blanco and 400,000 spectators lining the streets – talk about a Beatles moment.
4.) Lastly, the New York Red Bulls invade Bridgeview this Saturday (7:30 p.m./Fox Soccer Channel). Bruce Arena and his all-star cast of Juan Pablo Angel, Claudio Reyna and Jozy Altidore take on a streaking Fire squad that has moved into playoff contention.
