Gary, Ind.—The Calgary Vipers scored four runs in the eighth inning to complete a comeback from a three run deficit and defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 7-5 on Saturday night before a crowd of 5,345 at U. S. Steel Yard. The loss snapped the RailCats three game winning streak and ended the Vipers six game road losing streak.

Gary led 4-1 after four innings before the Vipers scored twice in the sixth to pull to within one. Carlos Duncan led off the eighth with a home run to left field, his 12^th of the season, to tie the game. Jim Crowell replaced David Byard on the mound after Duncan's home run and quickly got the first two outs in the inning. But Drew Miller restarted the rally with an infield single and Jorge Tang followed with a single to right. Crowell hit Kevin Price with an 0-2 pitch to load the bases, and Manabu Kuramochi walked on four pitches to force in the tie-breaking run. Darryl Brinkley followed with a two-run single to center to make it 7-4.

The RailCats loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the eighth before Ryan Wyland got Eric McNamee to ground out to short to end the threat.

In the ninth, the RailCats loaded the bases with no one out on an error and a pair of walks. Calgary reliever Geoff Freeborn got Jose Yepez to ground to Kuramochi at second. Steve Haake, the runner at first base, attempted to stop to avoid the tag by Kuramochi, but was called out by umpire Mike Trotter, and Kuramochi threw to first to complete a double play. The RailCats vehemently argued the call on the tag of Haake at second but the call stood. Jermaine Allensworth flied out to deep left to end the game.

The RailCats opened a 3-0 lead over the first two innings. Calgary starting pitcher Scott Sarver walked three batters in the first inning before Allensworth single to left to drive in two. In the second, Jay Pecci singled with two outs to bring in Nate Price from third to make it 3-0.

Calgary's Drew Miller led off the fifth with a solo home run, his ninth of the year, to make it 3-1, and Gary's Tanner Townsend singled in a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-1.

Calgary got a pair of RBI singles in the sixth from Kyle Nichols and Jorge Tange to pull to within one and set the stage for their big eighth inning.

The RailCats host Calgary on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Steel Yard. Jason Shelley (4-3, 5.88) will start for Gary against Calgary's Kazuaki Minami (7-4, 5.86). The RailCats are off on Monday before beginning a two-city road trip on Tuesday in Kansas City. They return to the Steel Yard on Thursday, August 23^rd to host Joliet in the start of a five game series.
