TODD’S TWO RBI BEATS BEARS IN GAME ONE 6-5
NEWARK, NJ – August 13, 2007 – Lancaster Barnstormers first baseman Jeremy Todd went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to help his team beat the Newark Bears 6-5 in game one of the doubleheader Monday afternoon at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
Todd broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI double followed by an RBI single by third baseman Felix Martinez to give Lancaster a 2-0 lead.
Newark came right back to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Right-fielder Keith Reed began the scoring with an RBI single, and designated hitter Victor Rodriguez belted a two-run home run, his eighth of the season, to give the Bears a 3-2 advantage.
Lancaster’s second baseman Michael Woods tied the game in the top of the fifth with a solo home run, his seventh of the season, and Todd gave the Barnstormers the lead for good with a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning, his 19th of the season.
The Bears were led by center-fielder Marcus Nettles who went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored, and second baseman Javier Colina finished 2-for-3 including a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning. In addition to Todd, Martinez went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Barnstormers.
Carlos Mirabal (8-7) took the loss surrendering six runs on 11 hits while striking out five in six innings, and Rob Henkel (5-8) earned the victory tossing five innings and allowing three runs on six hits. Derrick DePriest picked up his 13th save of the season pitching a scoreless 1.2 innings allowing one hit while striking out two.
