NEWARK, NJ – August 28, 2007 – The Road Warriors, the Atlantic League’s traveling team, defeated the Newark Bears 6-1 on Wednesday evening at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in a game which saw the Road Warriors serve as the home team for the first time in their 606 game existence. The Road Warriors were made the home team for what was expected to be their final game in Newark.
The Road Warriors took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Left-fielder David Housel brought in the first run with a single to right-center and second baseman Rene Aqueron added two more with a base hit up the middle.
Designated hitter Jose Herrera got the Bears on the board in the top of the fifth with his tenth home run of the season, an opposite field shot just over the left-centerfield wall.
The Road Warriors added to their lead in the bottom half of the fifth on a two RBI single by first baseman Ian Bladergroen. Bladergroen made it 6-1 Road Warriors in the seventh with a sacrifice-fly to centerfield.
The Bears will welcome the Camden Riversharks to the Den on Wednesday night for a 7:05 PM start. RHP Harold Eckert (3-0) will start for the Bears.
