NEWARK, NJ – August 26, 2007 – Left-fielder Jason Bryon went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Road Warriors to an 11-4 victory over the Newark Bears on Sunday afternoon at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The Bears are now 57-48 overall and 21-21 in the second-half.
Bryan’s first home run put the Road Warriors on the board in the top of the second inning. Centerfielder Travis Ezi followed two batters later with a two-run shot to right field to make it 3-0.
After the Bears got a run back in the fourth, the Road Warriors sent eight men to the plate in the fifth inning to pull away. After two runs came in on a fielding error, Bryan connected for his second home run of the game, a two-run homer to right.
The Bears closed the deficit to 7-4 after third baseman Pat Peavey’s fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning, but the Road Warriors added three in the eighth and one in the ninth to seal the win.
Road Warriors’ left-handed starter Damien Myers (3-12) picked up the win. In six innings, he allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits and two walks, striking out seven.
Bears’ starter Carlos Mirabal (8-8) took the loss. He surrendered seven runs in five innings, though only three of them were earned.
The Bears and Road Warriors will play game two of the three game set on Monday night at 7:05 PM. The Bears will send right-hander Jose Garcia (2-0) to the mound to face Road Warriors’ right Darwin Soto (5-5)
