NEWARK, NJ – August 31, 2007 – The Camden Riversharks jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first three innings en route to an 8-3 victory over the Newark Bears on Friday night at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. 

 

Designated hitter Denny Abreu got the Camden attack started in the first with a leadoff triple.  The next batter, centerfielder Dwight Maness knocked in Abreu with a single to left.  The Riversharks added another run in the second on a Craig Paquette solo home run, his 11th of the season.

 

Camden pulled away in the third with a four run inning.  First baseman Brad Strauss delivered an RBI single and left fielder Cristian Guerrero connected for a three run home run to deep centerfield.  The Sharks tacked on one more in the fourth on a run scoring single by right fielder L.J. Biernbaum. 

 

The Bears got a run in the fifth on a solo home run by designated hitter Corey Smith, an opposite field shot to right.  They added two more an inning later when shortstop Ramon Castro drove one over the right centerfield wall for a two run home run.

 

The Riversharks put a run on the board in the seventh on an RBI double into the right field corner by shortstop Milko Jaramillo.

 

The Bears will welcome the Long Island Ducks to town for a three game series to wrap up their 12 game homestand.  First pitch on Saturday evening is scheduled for 6:05 PM in a game that will see Bears’ right-hander Jose Garcia (3-0) take on Ducks’ lefty John Halama (7-8).
