NEWARK, NJ August 21, 2007 In a game scheduled for seven innings as part of a doubleheader, second baseman Matt DeMarco hit a sacrifice-fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to give the Camden Riversharks a 3-2 victory over the Newark Bears at Campbells Field on Tuesday night. Game two was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up on Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 9:05 AM.
Cather Josh Noviskey led off the Camden ninth with a double. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Milko Jaramillo, who reached first safely after a throwing error. An intentional walk to left-fielder Denny Abreu loaded the bases for DeMarcos game-winning RBI.
The Riversharks got on the board in the third inning on a run-scoring single by Abreu. The Bears responded in the top of the fourth with an RBI single by left-fielder Joey Gomes to knot the game at one. Third baseman Craig Paquette put Camden back on top with an RBI double in the bottom half of the fourth. The Riversharks held their one run advantage until the sixth when second baseman Vic Gutierrez tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single.
For the Bears, Gutierrez and Gomes both went 2-for-4 with an RBI and centerfielder Marcus Nettles was 3-for-5. Right-fielder L.J. Biernbaum led Camden with a 3-for-4 night.
Riversharks reliever Aric Leclair (5-5) pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win. Edwin Almonte (2-5) suffered the loss for the Bears.
In tomorrows doubleheader, the Bears will send right-hander Jose Garcia (2-0) in game one. Southpaw Jeriome Robertson (3-2) will take the ball in game two.
