Gary, Ind.—Eric McNamee delivered a tie-breaking two-run single in the sixth inning and contributed a series of highlight-quality defensive plays at second base to lead the Gary SouthShore RailCats to a 6-4 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones before a crowd of 2,124 at U. S. Steel Yard on Thursday night.  The RailCats won two of three in the series, giving them a series win after dropping their last four three game sets.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Gary's Steve Haake led off the inning with an infield single.  With one out, Jermaine Allensworth singled to right to move Haake to second, and Nate Price's infield hit loaded the bases.  Eric Blakeley drew a walk to force in the tying run.  After Mike Reese struck out, McNamee grounded a base hit through the middle to bring in Allensworth and Price to give Gary a 6-4 lead.

RailCats relievers Steve Edsall, David Byard, and Tony Cogan combined to work three scoreless innings and preserve the lead.  Cogan pitched a perfect ninth for his 15th save.

Kansas City started the scoring in the top of the first inning with a single run, coming on back-to-back base hits by Geoff McCallum and Rob Watson and a one-out sacrifice fly by Al Benjamin to bring in McCallum.

The RailCats answered with three runs in the second to take the lead.  Price delivered a two-run single after a single by Jose Yepez and a double by Allensworth, and Price eventually scored on a passed ball after two Kansas City errors to make it 3-1.

The T-Bones scored one run in the fourth on an RBI single by Nelson Gord and added two more in the fifth on a run-scoring double by Mario Delgado and an RBI hit by Benjamin to take a 4-3 lead.

RailCats starting pitcher Travis Kerber (5-5) picked up the win, going six innings and allowing eight hits and four runs with one walk and two strikeouts.  Kansas City starter Chris Krawczyk (4-3) suffered the loss, allowing six hits and five runs (four earned) in five and one-third innings with two walks and four strikeouts.

McNamee made one of the RailCats top defensive plays of the season in the sixth inning, racing out into shallow center field to make a diving catch on a looping fly ball off the bat of Patrick Arlis.  McNamee added spectacular plays on infield ground outs to his left and right in the third and fifth innings.

The win for the RailCats was their second straight after five consecutive losses.  They have scored 13 runs over the last two games after going nine straight games without scoring more than three runs in a game.

The RailCats host the Calgary Vipers on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Steel Yard.  Willie Glen (8-1, 3.58) will start for Gary against Calgary's Jeff Groeger (3-2, 6.11).

Notes:  In addition to breaking their losing streak, the RailCats ended a string of nine consecutive games in which they had scored three runs or less…The two-run double by Blakeley ended a 2 for 30 slump for the RailCats utility man…The RailCats are 17-2 when scoring at least four runs at home in 2007.
