Gary, Ind.—Tanner Townsend and Jermaine Allensworth each collected three hits as the Gary SouthShore RailCats defeated the Joliet JackHammers 7-5 on Monday night at U. S. Steel Yard before a crowd of 3,676. The RailCats extended their winning streak to eight straight games, one short of the club record.

The RailCats also established a new single-season attendance record as their total for the year increased to 166,338 in their final home game of the regular season.

The RailCats jumped out to an early lead, scoring single runs in each of the first two innings to go ahead 2-0. Eric McNamee walked to start the first and eventually scored on a wild pitch. In the second, Allensworth singled and scored on Townsend's double off the left-center field fence.

Joliet battled back to tie the game, scoring in the third on an RBI double by Cory Harris and again in the fifth when Matt Mazurek crossed the plate on Tim Hutting's fielder's choice play to make it 2-2.

But the RailCats went ahead for good in the fifth. Nate Price started the inning with an infield single, stole second, went to third on a ground out, and scored on McNamee's sacrifice fly to make it 3-2.

The RailCats erupted for four runs in the sixth. After a walk to Steve Haake, Jose Yepez singled and Allensworth followed with an RBI single to center. Townsend added a base hit to load the bases, and Price delivered a two-run single to right to make it 6-2. Townsend came in to score on Dave Detienne's infield ground out to make it 7-2.

Joliet scored twice in the seventh on Tim Hutting's two-run double and Cory Harris added a solo home run in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Jason Shelley (7-4) was the starter and winner for Gary, allowing four runs (three earned) over six and one-third innings. Joliet starter Josh Regits (1-4) took the loss, giving up six earned runs in five and one-third innings. Tony Cogan notched his 22^nd save.

The RailCats improved their overall record to 54-36, matching the club record for wins in a season.

The RailCats will play at Joliet on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in a make-up game created when the game scheduled for August 19^th was postponed. Travis Kerber (7-6, 4.56) will start for Gary. Nate Sevier (11-4, 4.83) will start for Joliet.

Notes: The RailCats are 15-4 over the last 19 games…The RailCats won all 10 meetings with Joliet in Gary this season and are 25-2 at home vs. Joliet over the last three seasons.
