Gary, Ind.—The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club has set two important club records as the team prepares for its third straight playoff appearance beginning Tuesday night.
The RailCats set a franchise record for most victories in a season by notching win number 55 on Wednesday night in Kansas City. The previous record was 54 set in 2005 when the RailCats went on to win the Northern League championship. The RailCats have four more games to play (all in Kansas City) during the regular season to try to build on their record-breaking total of 55.
On Monday night, the RailCats played their final regular season home game of 2007 and established a new single-season attendance record. The RailCats final 2007 home attendance total was 166,338 in 46 home dates, surpassing the 2006 total. The single-game average of 3,616 was also a new RailCats record.
The RailCats have broken their own attendance record in every season since the opening of U. S. Steel Yard in 2003.
The RailCats close out the regular season on Sunday at Kansas City before opening the first round of the Northern League playoffs Tuesday night in either Kansas City or Winnipeg. The RailCats will host game three of the South Division Playoffs on Friday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m. at U. S. Steel Yard. If games four and five of the best-of-five series are played, they will also take place at the Steel Yard. For tickets to the RailCats' home playoff games, call (219) 882-BALL.
