Gary, Ind.—Chris Latham's two-out, run-scoring single in the seventh inning broke a 2-2 tie and four Winnipeg pitchers combined to allow just six hits as the Goldeyes defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 5-2 on Wednesday before a crowd of 2,310 at U. S. Steel Yard.  The two clubs have split the first two games in the series that will conclude on Thursday night.

With the game tied 2-2, Winnipeg's Max Poulin started the seventh with a bunt single against RailCats reliever Steve Edsall and Poulin went to second on a sacrifice by Jordan Lundberg.  Two batters later, Latham, who had hit a solo home run earlier in the game, delivered a base hit over shortstop off reliever Brad Mumma to give Winnipeg a 3-2 lead.

The Goldeyes added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth off Gary reliever David Byard and Goldeyes closer Matt Davis recorded the final four outs for his 14th save.

The RailCats came back from an early 2-0 deficit to tie the game.  Nate Price's solo homer to right in the fifth got the RailCats on the scoreboard.  In the sixth, Tanner Townsend singled to right with one out, stole second, and scored on Jose Yepez's single to right to even the score at 2-2.

Winnipeg starting pitcher Brandon Kintzler improved to 4-0 with the win.  He worked six innings, allowing six hits and two runs with one walk and three strikeouts.  Edsall (1-2) absorbed the loss.

The RailCats did not collect a hit in three innings against the Winnipeg bullpen.

Walter Young went 3 for 5 with two RBI as part of a 13 hit Goldeyes attack.

The RailCats host Winnipeg at U. S. Steel Yard at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the finale of a three game set as the Famous San Diego Chicken entertains fans with his only visit to Northwest Indiana this season.  Gary's Josh Habel (9-5, 3.36) will start against Winnipeg's Mike Kusiewicz (3-2, 3.86).  The RailCats open a three game set in Joliet on Friday.

Notes:  The RailCats have scored just nine runs in five games on their current homestand, posting a team batting average of .154.
