Schaumburg, Ill.—Jason Shelley tossed eight and two-thirds innings of five-hit baseball and Eric McNamee broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out, run-scoring single in the sixth inning as the Gary SouthShore RailCats edged the Schaumburg Flyers 4-3 before a crowd of 2,815 at Alexian Field on Wednesday night. The RailCats completed a sweep of the three game series and finished their nine game road trip with a record of 7-2. The RailCats also climbed back above the .500 mark in the second half (19-18) for the first time since July 27^th when they were 8-7.

Schaumburg scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie when Bryce Morrison led off with an infield single, went to third on Alex Fonseca's double to left, and scored on Alex Derhak's sacrifice fly to make it 2-1. Fonseca scored on a double by Robert Matlock to make it 3-1.

But the RailCats answered with a three-run top of the sixth. Jose Yepez had an infield single to start the RailCats rally and went to second on an infield hit by Eric Blakeley. David Detienne was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no one out. Schaumburg pitcher Nat Harris uncorked a wild pitch to bring in Yepez and make it a 3-2 game. After Nate Price struck out, Dale Mueller grounded out to first to bring in Blakeley and tie the game, and McNamee followed with a two-out single to left to bring in Detienne and give Gary a 4-3 lead.

Shelley did not allow a hit after the fifth inning but gave up a lead-off walk to Jimmy Hurst to start the ninth and put the tying run on base. After a long battle, he got Pat O'Sullivan to ground into a double play on a chopper to Tanner Townsend at third and clear the bases. Tony Cogan replaced Shelley and recorded the final out, a long fly to center off the bat of Dario Delgado that was caught by Dale Mueller with a great running grab, to end the game.

Shelley (6-4) allowed just five hits and walked two while striking out three to earn the win. Cogan notched his 20^th save. Harris (9-6) took the loss, allowing nine hits and four runs over seven innings with one walk and one strikeout.

Blakeley led a nine hit Gary attack, going 3 for 4 with two runs scored.

The RailCats open their final homestand of the regular season on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at U. S. Steel Yard against Joliet. Games are also scheduled for Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Travis Kerber (6-6, 4.47) will start for Gary on Thursday against Joliet's Nate Sevier, who threw a seven inning no-hitter in his last start against the RailCats on Saturday night in Joliet.

Notes: The RailCats are 10-4 over the last 14 games…Gary pitchers allowed just four runs in 29 innings in the series…Jimmy Hurst went 0 for 3 as his hitting streak came to an end at 19 games.
