Joliet, Ill.—The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored five runs in the sixth inning and overcame a three run deficit to defeat the Joliet JackHammers 6-4 on Friday night before a crowd of 4,037 at Silver Cross Field. The RailCats have won six of their last nine games after losing five straight.

A solo home run by Joliet's Juan Diaz in the fourth and two more runs in the fifth gave Joliet a 3-0 lead. But the RailCats got on the board in sixth when Eric Blakeley singled with one out and scored on Tanner Townsend's double to make it 3-1.

In the seventh, Jermaine Allensworth led off with a sharp single to left and went to third on a line drive double to right by Dave Detienne. Nate Price followed with a two-run single to right to tie the game and Price went to second on the throw home. Dale Mueller's sacrifice moved Price to third, and he scored when Joliet pitcher Jason Cierlik threw wildly to first base after fielding Eric McNamee's ground ball to make it 4-3. McNamee stole second and scored on Blakeley's triple to make it 5-3, and Blakeley scored on a passed ball to put Gary ahead by three.

Joliet scored once in the seventh but Tony Cogan came out of the Gary bullpen to notch his 17^th save of the season, tying a single-season club record set in 2005 by Derek Lopez.

RailCats starter Jason Shelley (5-4) earned the win, going seven innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Joliet starter Josh Regits did not allow a run until the sixth but took the loss to fall to 1-2, giving up eight hits and four runs over six innings.

The RailCats battle the JackHammers again Saturday night in Joliet in a suspended game doubleheader. The suspended game will begin at 6:05 and resume in the top of the fifth inning with no score. It is a scheduled nine inning game that was halted by rain on August 5^th. The second game will begin 30 minutes after the completion of game one and is scheduled for seven innings. Travis Kerber (6-5, 4.46) will pitch for Gary on Saturday.
