OTTERS EARN SPLIT WITH GRIZZLIES
The Evansville Otters earned a series split with the Gateway Grizzlies, thanks to an 8-2 win Sunday evening at Bosse Field in Evansville, Ind.
Each team won a pair of games in the series, with the Grizzlies taking the middle two in the series. The Grizzlies finished the eight-game road trip 5-3.
Evansville (31-45) took an early lead. They scored two runs in the second, and another pair in the third to lead 4-0. All the runs came off of starter Dave Wasylak. Wasylak went four innings in his second pro start. The four runs came on five hits. He walked one and struck out one.
The Grizzlies (51-24) were limited to just four hits by a trio of Evansville hurlers. Manny Paula had two of them.
Paula hit his 11th home run of the year, and his second in as many nights, in the fourth inning to make it 4-1 Evansville. The home run extended the Grizzlies streak to 25 consecutive games with a home run.
Paula picked up a one-out single in the seventh, then scored on a double by Ryan Sullivan. That cut the lead to 4-2.
The Otters broke things open in the bottom of the eighth. Evansville scored four runs against Grizzlies reliever Brian Logan. Logan gave up the four runs on three hits and three walks in just 2/3 of an inning.
The Grizzlies and the Frontier League take a day off Monday. Gateway is back in action Tuesday night at home, hosting the Slippery Rock Sliders. Game time Tuesday is 7:05 at GCS Ballpark.
