Flyers stay alive with 7-6 victory over T-Bones

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Kansas City T-Bones scored six runs over the final two innings, but fell a run short in a 7-6 loss to the Schaumburg Flyers at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Ill.

The Flyers got out to a 1-0 lead against Anthony Boughner in the first inning on an RBI single from Pat O'Sullivan.   O'Sullivan added another run in the fourth inning with a solo home run to center, putting Schaumburg up 2-0.

The Flyers scored one more run off Boughner in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Anthony Monegan, plating Billy Malone who led off the frame with a triple.   Boughner suffered the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in six innings of work.

Schaumburg scored four runs off reliever Danny Core in a decisive seventh inning, plating three of those runs on a home run from Alexander Derhak to take a 7-0 lead into the eighth inning.

Drew Dickinson was stellar for seven innings for the Flyers, holding the T-Bones to just four hits over seven scoreless innings.   But in the eighth, Kansas City broke through with three straight one-out hits off Dickinson, scoring their first run on a double from Al Benjamin and the next two on a single from Calvin Pickering.   Brandon Culp came in to the game following Pickering's single and surrendered a double to Neb Brown to put runners at first and second.  The next hitter, Patrick Arlis, drove in Pickering with an RBI groundout to cap off the five-run inning for Kansas City.

Former T-Bone James Morrison surrendered a run in the ninth on an RBI single from Mario Delgado, but induced a double play ball from Pickering to end the game.   Dickinson picked up the victory, allowing four runs on seven hits in seven and one-thirds innings.  Morrison earned his 16^th save of the season.

Matt Schweitzer allowed two hits in a scoreless eighth inning for Kansas City.

The two teams face off in game two of their five-game set tomorrow night.  Dan Grybash is scheduled to pitch for Schaumburg.  Kansas City's starter has yet to be announced.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:20.

Game Notes:  Kansas City's seven-game win streak over the Flyers was snapped with the loss.   The T-Bones fall to 4-7 at Alexian Field this season…The loss was Boughner's first in the second half of the season.  He is now 5-1 since the All-Star break.   It was also his first loss versus his former team, a span of four starts…Drew Dickinson improves to 3-3 against the T-Bones this season.  The left-hander is now 3-0 versus Kansas City at Alexian Field this season.
