Joliet, Ill.—Juan Diaz belted two home runs, Chad Ehrnsberger collected four hits, and Nate Sevier became the Northern League's first 10 game winner as the the Joliet JackHammers defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 9-3 on Saturday night before a crowd of 5,115 at Silver Cross Field. The JackHammers have won the first two games of the series that will conclude on Sunday. The RailCats have lost four straight games for the first time this season.

Joliet wasted no time in getting started against RailCats starting pitcher Travis Kerber (4-5). They scored four runs on six hits in the first inning and were never seriously threatened afterwards. Diaz hit a solo home run in the second to make it 5-0, and Ehrnsberger delivered a two-out run-scoring single in the fourth to make it 6-0.

The RailCats got on the board against Sevier (10-2) in the sixth when Tanner Townsend singled with two outs and scored on Steve Haake's double. Haake scored on a base hit by Jose Yepez to make it 6-2.

But Joliet came right back in the bottom of the inning to ahead jump ahead by six when Diaz drilled a two-run home run off Steve Edsall, the league-leading 19^th homer of the year for Diaz.

Gary scored in the seventh on a triple by Nate Price and an RBI single by Eric McNamee to make it 8-3, and Joliet closed out the scoring in the eighth when Chris Brown tripled and scored on Eric Scriven's sacrifice fly.

Sevier worked seven innings, allowing 10 hits and three runs with one walk and five strikeouts to earn the win. Kerber took the loss, allowing 11 hits and six runs in four innings of work.

The RailCats have lost nine of their last 11 and have scored just 15 runs in their last eight games. However, they collected 12 hits, their highest total in a game since they had 12 in Schaumburg on July 26^th. Townsend had his first three-hit game since June 6^th for Gary.

The RailCats battle the JackHammers again in Joliet at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday. Gary's Willie Glen (8-1, 3.58) will start against Joliet's Brian Forystek (3-2, 3.33). The RailCats return home on Tuesday to meet Kansas City.

Notes: Joliet's Derek Nicholson, a .344 hitter entering the game, ended a 0 for 36 dry spell against Gary pitching on the year when he blooped a single to left in the sixth inning.
