GRIZZLIES SHUTOUT WILD THINGS
Toro Trevino pitched eight shutout innings, Eric Ridener added his 19th save and the Gateway Grizzlies got back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning as they defeated the Washington Wild Things 2-0 Thursday night at Consol Energy Park in Washington, PA.
Trevino (10-5) earned his 10th win of the season, allowing only five hits. He struck out three.
Ridener walked one in the ninth, but thanks to a double play ball, faced the minimum. He struck out the final batter of the game to earn his 19th save of the season. It makes him the all-time saves leader for the Grizzlies, in only his first season with the club.
Jonathan Armitage and Mike Breyman hit the back-to-back shots leading off the ninth, to break a scoreless tie. It is the seventh time this season the Grizzlies have gone back-to-back.
Armitage's home run was his 12th of the year. He was 2-4 with a double as well. Breyman's long ball was his 19th of the year, and the 55th of his career, putting him all alone in fifth place all-time in Frontier League history. He was also 2-4.
The Grizzlies (58-26) and Wild Things (49-36) meet in game two of the series Friday night in Washington, PA.
