GRIZZLIES FALL TO WILD THINGS
Pinch hitting Pat O'Brien singled up the middle with two outs in the ninth Friday night, scoring Nathan Messner, and sending the Washington Wild Things to a 6-5 win over the visiting Gateway Grizzlies. The win also secured the East Division Championship for the Wild Things, and their sixth consecutive playoff appearance.
Justin Staatz (1-5) took the loss for the Grizzlies. It was the only run Staatz allowed over 1.2 innings of relief. He allowed one hit, but walked three. Dave Wasylak started and went 4.2 innings, allowing a run on three hits. He walked five.
In a back-and-forth game, the Grizzlies (58-27) had leads of 3-1 and 4-3. Washington (50-36) had leads of 1-0 and 5-4.
Ryan Saltzgaber and Jonathan Armitage each had two hits and an RBI for the Grizzlies. Manny Paula hit his 12th home run of the year in the sixth inning.
The Grizzlies and Wild Things will complete the series with the finale Sunday evening in Washington. Game time is 6:05 p.m. (CDT)
