GRIZZLIES COMEBACK FALLS SHORT
The Gateway Grizzlies scored a run in the ninth, and left the bases loaded, as the Chillicothe Paints defeated the Grizzlies 6-4 Thursday night in front of 4,087 at GCS Ballpark. It is the fourth consecutive time the Paints have defeated the Grizzlies this year.
Paints closer Eric Teal walked three in the inning, including Manny Paula with the bases loaded to cut the lead to two runs. Teal also gave up a single to Jonathan Armitage in the inning. Pinch hitting Eric Beck was called out on strikes to end the game.
The Grizzlies (43-21) trailed most of the night. Paula homered leading off the second inning to tie the game at one.
The Paints (32-34) took the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning. They would add another on three two-out hits in the fifth inning. That chased Grizzlies starter Billy McKinney. McKinney (0-2) went just 4.2 innings. He allowed four runs, two earned, on 11 hits. He struck out four.
The Grizzlies got as close as a run in the seventh. Ryan Sullivan singled and Jeff Vincent homered to make it 4-3.
The Paints added two more in the eighth to make it 6-3.
The Grizzlies and the Paints continue the series with a 7:05 game Friday night at GCS Ballpark.
